A comparison of run-time operation between the old and new Ryobi Area light timed to perfection whilst watching the two lights. Ive already tested the old model and that review is available in the link. Others have ‘reviewed’ that the newer model stating that it runs for 8 hours. THIS DEPENDS ON YOUR BATTERY SIZE!! On a 1.4 Amp lithium iron battery it runs for just under 5 hours whereas the older model runs for 8 on the same battery. With a larger battery an individual or frugal two couple might get through 2 evenings camping but keeping 2 phones fully charged and running the light would require at least a couple of larger batteries to be more certain. So given that these are available is it worth it? Honestly their are cheaper 12volt lights that run for longer and taking your phone battery pack along would probably be a better way to go. Even so they are handy lights, can take a bit of rain are easy to setup and are basically worry free. Pack two batteries and off you go. You could hike with this but a simple headlamp and a LUCY solar light would be better for a hike.
